Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences is a budding Medical College started by Government of Karnataka in the historical city of Gadag. Gadag city is known for Kumara Vyasa and also for the historical temples of Trikuteshwara and Veera Narayana. Lakkundi, the city of 100 temples is situated near to the Gadag city. Gadag is one of the richest bio-diversity areas in the country. The campus of Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences is surrounded by attractive valley, mountains and hilly terrains popularly known as Kappatgudda.
The city is situated in the north part of Karnataka on the National Highway No. 63 (Ankola – Hubli – Hospet – Bellary – Guntakal – Gooty). Gadag is well connected by Air, Train and Roadways and is 60 km from the Hubli city. Famous historical places like Pattadkal, Badami, Ihole, Hampi are situated within the 150 km radius. Famous world heritage centres/ monuments are situated here.
Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences was started during 2014 in 54 acres of land, in the premises of District Hospital at Gadag. The Institute is located near the Mallasamudra village on the way to Laxmeshwar from Gadag. The college building covers 51,000 sq m. of area.
The institute is fully equipped with Laboratories, Museums, Examination Hall, Auditorium, Lecture Halls, Central Library, Staff and the Teaching Faculty. Construction of the Gymnasium will be completed soon.
A teaching hospital with 350 beds is attached to the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences. Second phase of the plan will be upgrading the present hospital to a total of 750 beds. Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital has the goal: to provide optimum care to the patients by using advanced medical technology, to serve economically weaker sections of society and to produce socially committed Doctors.
